Christmas Food Baskets 2011
Families
of Darien, Downers
Grove, Westmont, and Willowbrook
received an outpouring of love in the
form of foods, produce, and gifts from the DLC annual Christmas Food Baskets
and from the Darien Park District toy collections. Many area
supporters also received the gift of joy in giving.
The Darien Lions Club distributed holiday food baskets to
200 needy families on December 17, 2011. Christmas presents for
the children were included and had been wrapped by the Darien Park District.
These
large scale humanitarian efforts are not possible without the time, effort,
and funding of many, many, caring people. Some gave donations of food
and funding, others collected, packaged or did distributions throughout the
community.
Non perishable food items were collected locally. Hams and turkeys
were donated by the Kaminski family. Fresh produce items such as
fruit, vegetables and milk were donated by the Darien Lions Club.
On Friday, the Lions Club members and
volunteers meet at the Fairview Park District facility and sorted and
packed all of the food items. Equipment usage from the Home Depot
aided in the efforts. The next morning, all the items, the bags, boxes, and presents
are personally delivered.
The efforts to reach out to families who were less fortunate and help
brighten the holiday season... it is the human spirit hard at work.
The Darien Lions Club wish all a very merry Christmas!
