Every year,
the Darien Lions Club awards several scholarships. We are proud to
present the following awardees.
The Lou
McGinley Scholarship is given to a hearing-impaired senior in Hindsdale
South High School's Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing Department who has succeeded
in school. It is given in memory of former Darien Lion Lou. This year's awardee
is Kathleen McGann.
The Sean Dunn
Scholarship is awarded to a Hinsdale South High School senior in the
Educational Services department who has overcome some sort of learning
impairment and has succeeded in school. The scholarship is given
in memory of
former student Sean Dunn. This year's winner is Robert (Joel)
Mengarelli.
The Robert
Counsel Scholarship is named in honor of former Club member Bob Counsel and
is given to a Downers Grove High School senior. This year's
scholarship goes to Kaitlin Montes.
All these
scholarships are in the amount of $1,000 and can be renewable for an
additional $1,000 for the student's sophomore year upon satisfactory
achievement in their freshman year.
The Kris Sant
Scholarship is given by active
Club member Lion Kris Sant through the Darien Lions Club Foundation.*
It is awarded to a foreign-born student who has been in the U.S. only during
his/her high school years and has shown great promise as an American
student. This year's
$1,000 scholarship goes to Salomeja Ivinskyte.
All these
award winners are chosen by the educators in the respective departmental
areas.
