I
am Joel Mengarelli, inspirational student.
I have triumphed over many obstacles including learning
disabilities and fine and gross motor challenges.
By working very hard, I currently have a grade point average
of 4.7 on a 5.0 scale. I
am quite motivated and have learned to be independent, and organized
while using my time well. I have learned to be independent, and organized while using
my time well. I have
done a great job balancing my role of student-athlete while
participating on Hinsdale South’s wrestling team.
My goal this year was to inspire my teammates with “Try
your best, persevere and listen to the coaches.”
I not only used pep talks before each meet, I also composed
several poems for the Sports Awards presentation.
I am proud to be on the State Wrestling Academic Team for
2005.
One
of my learning disabilities kept me from getting my thoughts down on
paper. In junior high I
set reading goals for myself, like reading a book a night during the
summer. My Speech
teacher declared me a miracle.
I have now written two novels and been asked by my senior
English teacher to submit work for the school’s literary
publication. During
junior year my English teacher told my Resource Teacher that I had a
98% in her class and juniors don’t get that high of a grade.
I love
to sing at church, in chorus and during private lessons. I
practice every night and strive for perfection. My voice
teacher says that I am the reason teaches. My pre-engineering
teacher also says I am a rare student who not only wants to learn,
but I am willing to do whatever it takes to learn. I go to the
Computer Aided Design (Cad) lab before and after school to complete
assignments.
