The Darien Lions Club stages several events every year as a means of raising money. Last year the Club raised over $37,000 on Candy Day, $15,000 from the Special Raffle, and $6,000 at the Pancake Breakfast. Most of these monies are returned to the community in the form of donations and services. Click here for a more extensive list of donations the Darien Lions gave last year.

Explanation

Board Meetings:
Held monthly (August-June) at individual Board members' homes. The agenda includes recommendations on Club affairs which will be presented to the membership at the general meetings.

Steak Fry:
This traditional meeting at Meyers Woods in Darien kicks off our general business meetings for the year. Club business is usually kept to a minimum as the main point of interest for the night is catching up with others, meeting new member prospects and enjoying a terrific steak dinner.

Induction Dinner:
Held twice each program year in October and February, new Club members are sworn in and introduced to the membership.

Non-Smoker:
Social Event/Dinner/Business Meeting held at the Darien Swim & Racquet Club. An evening of socializing for members and guests.

District 1-J Convention:
Annual meeting for all Lions Clubs in District 1-J in Illinois. The Darien Lions usually host a Friday night hospitality room featuring a DJ, games and fun. Meetings and socializing continue thru Sunday.

Golf Outing:
Usually held on the first Thursday in June. This event was attended by over 140 golfers in 2005. A family style dinner is provided and the evening is topped off with the drawing for the Club's annual "Big Bucks Raffle" for which first prize is $10,000.

State Convention:
Annual convention for all Illinois Lions Clubs and a tune-up for the International Convention. The Darien Lions usually send a couple of representatives to this event. Individual members also may attend.

International Convention:
Every year all Lions Clubs from around the world convene for meetings, workshops, and a seemingly endless parade with nations from around the globe participating in their native garb. The Darien Lions usually send several representatives to this event.
