Food Basket Drive coming up..
The Lions Club next will be gearing-up to collect non-perishable food and donations for itsí annual Christmas Holiday Food Basket program.  Food basket distribution, done by Club members, their families and other volunteers will take place December 21st from headquarters of the Darien Park District, who have assisted in this program for many years.  The Darien Lions have sponsored this program since 1976, and it has seen the number of area families being served grow from 14 to over 200 in recent years.  Lion Ralph Beardsley is this yearís  Food Basket Drive Chairman and persons wishing to sponsor a family or help out in other ways  can contact him at 630-963-6076.

The Food Basket Drive of 2012 was a Great Success
Thank You! With the help of your donations of non-perishable food items, the Darien Lions Club distributed holiday food baskets to about 200 needy families last December 22nd.

Christmas presents for the children were included and had been wrapped by the Darien Park District.  Families of Darien, Downers Grove, Westmont, and Willowbrook were included in the distributions.

These large scale humanitarian efforts are not possible without the time, effort, and funding of many, many, caring people.  Some gave donations of food and funding, others collected, packaged or performed distributions throughout the community.  Hams and turkeys were donated by the Kaminski family.  Fresh produce items such as fruit, vegetables and milk were donated by the Darien Lions Club and were purchased with monetary donations received from our Candy Day drive and other activities.

The Lions Club members and volunteers meet at the Fairview Park District facility to sort and pack all of the food items.  The next morning, all the donated items, and gifts are personally presented.

The efforts to reach out to families who were less fortunate and help brighten the holiday season... it is the human spirit hard at work.

The Darien Lions Club wish all a Merry Christmas!
