The Concept -- The safety of our children is every parent's most important concern.  In a missing child situation, it is essential to have a good color photo and a current description of the child.  The first twenty minutes of searching are considered to be the most critical.  It is essential that the police and other authorities be provided with a recent photo and accurate physical description of the missing child as soon as possible.  We provide you with the opportunity to have these ID cards for your kids.

At our Safe-N-Well Program, Darien Lions develop a child's ID card which includes the child's color picture, along with all vital information including name, date of birth, height and weight, hair and eye colors, and any significant identifying marks and/or health alerts.  This information is processed through a company called My Card, and the photo ID is mailed to the parents in about ten days.

We suggest that you keep your child's photo ID card with you whenever you and he/she are outside the safety of your home.  If the child is not with you, you should leave the card with a grandparent, guardian or baby sitter so that it can be given to the police if necessary.

We provide this service at DarienFest and at our annual Pancake Breakfast.  One  ID card is prepared at no cost to the parents.   Additional cards can be purchased for $3.50 each.

Why should you run your kids through this program?  Experience has shown that most parents do not have a current picture or height/weight of their child.  During a panic situation they may be unable to recall details.  This is an important tool to give to the authorities in case the child is lost.

The Darien Lions Club Safe-N-Well Program was initiated in September, 1999.  To date we have serviced over 1,400 children.  For additional information, contact our Safe-N-Well Program Chairman Lion Kris Sant by sending an email to him.
