We are providing a letter that was recently sent by Lions Clubs International Foundation Chairman Dr. Tae-Sup Lee to our Club President Lion John Galan.

We frequently are asked, especially on Candy Day, "Where does all the money you raise from your fundraisers go?"  That is most certainly a legitimate question.

The Darien Lions Club is a part of Lions Clubs International.  LCI has a Foundation, and so does our Club.  (Our foundation website is currently under construction.)

All Lions Clubs have common goals.  Dr. Lee's letter explains what this is all about.  We think you'll find it most interesting.  Be sure to follow the links including the Annual Report;  Awards and Recognitions;   Fact Sheets on donations, grants, major projects, and resources;  and the Tsunami Relief efforts.  Other interesting links are also provided.  We'll sure this letter will sufficiently answer your questions re "where the money goes."

Please direct any comments/questions to Email-Questions.

Subject: LCIF Update for March 2005 from your LCIF Chairperson!
Date: Tue, 22 Mar 2005 21:35:46 +0000

Dear Lion John:

I want to offer my congratulations. I’ve just read the LCIF Annual Report for 2003-2004 and LCIF had an extraordinary year saving vision, assisting the disabled, giving youths life-skills and aiding victims of natural disasters. As a Lion, you share in the success of LCIF. LCIF helps Lions serve others and all Lions can take pride in its accomplishments.

You, too, can look over the Annual Report and more fully understand the scope and reach of LCIF. Our attractive, four-color Annual Report can be downloaded. (Scroll down to LCIF Background Brochures.)

The success of LCIF is entirely owing to the generosity and service of Lions worldwide, and LCIF has an extensive array of awards and recognitions to honor Lions. We’ve recently updated the awards and recognitions section of our Web site. There may be an award or recognition that your club or district can attain or that you personally may have an interest in.

One of the true gems of the LCIF Web site is our fact sheets on donations, grants, major projects and resources. The fact sheets are concise, up-to-date summaries of LCIF’s activities and projects. They enable you to get a good grasp of LCIF in a matter of minutes.

No discussion of LCIF is complete without a salute to SightFirst, our most successful program ever. SightFirst continues to approve projects that save the vision of thousands. In January, SightFirst approved 24 new grants for 13 countries that will enable Lions to bring the gift of vision to multitudes.

I’m proud to report that Lions worldwide continue to donate funds to LCIF for tsunami relief. Donations currently are at US$3.5 million, and Lions also have pledged another US$3 million so far. This unparalleled generosity will allow LCIF and Lions of Southeast Asia to rebuild schools, homes and orphanages. Thanks to Lions, children and adults who have endured a terrible tragedy will be able to rebuild their lives.

LCIF is all about service, as are Lions, but we also realize it’s a good idea to take a break and relax on a dream vacation. The LCIF Annual Cruise is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of Lions while on a 10-day luxury cruise and at the same time contribute to the humanitarian mission of LCIF. Don’t miss this opportunity to sail in October with International President Clem Kusiak.

In closing, you have my heartfelt admiration for the tireless service you do in your community. So often service is not acknowledged. I want to assure you that your service is exceedingly important. Working together, Lions are bringing help, hope and healing to people most in need of assistance.

Yours in service,

Dr. Tae-Sup Lee
